INWARD HOUSE

2019

The Inward House is located in a tight lot in a Pasig City subdivision. In this common type of city lot, a house is often in very close proximity to the neighbors on all sides. To address this condition, the house is created for its users to look more towards the inside of the property instead of its surrounding areas. By piercing the house with a small atrium, an outdoor space is created halfway in the plan, bringing in light and air to its enveloping indoor spaces and having them face a single tree planted in its center. The tree is a focal point of the house and serves as an organic component that will grow with the kids.

The materials are kept very simple: concrete, white plaster on masonry block, natural wood, and steel. We create multiple views inside the structure and connections between the different spaces by having openings in its floor slabs, and making use of the inside of the slanted roof area as a third level, housing a child’s bedroom, a loft study for the master bedroom, and an open attic space.
